The Civil War Sesquicentennial at the Gates of Richmond

The Civil War 150th arrives at the gates of Richmond later this week.  Check out Richmond National Battlefield’s full guide of activities, (available as a free downloadable PDF). Things get started this weekend with the commemoration of the Battle of Drewry’s Bluff, then next month they kick into gear for commemoration of the Seven Days’ Battles.

The first public event rolls out on Friday, May 11 with an event that features ECW’s Ashley Whitehead. At 7:30 p.m., the Chesterfield County Central Library will host a panel discussion discussing the Battle of Drewry’s Bluff. Appearing with Ashley will be historians Mike Gorman, Sam Craghead, and Scott Williams.

At the Drewry’s Bluff unit of the park, meanwhile, there’s a ton of stuff going on all weekend, including living history demonstrations, tours, and educational programs.
