Symposium Spotlight: David A. Powell and an Introduction to Civil War Tactics

We are pleased to welcome back David (Dave) A. Powell to the Emerging Civil War Symposium. Dave is a leading expert on the Chickamauga Campaign, and has penned multiple volumes on the battle for Savas Beatie, LLC. He was also integral in helping us bring our Keynote Speaker James Ogden in from Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, for this years symposium.

Dave will kick off the weekends presentations Friday evening, by giving a short primer on tactics in the Civil War.

He will make his third appearance at the symposium, traveling in from the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

Powell is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute (1983) with a B.A. in history. He has published numerous articles in various magazines, and more than fifteen historical simulations of different battles. The next volume of his Chickamauga series is slated for publication this fall, and is titled; The Chickamauga Campaign-Barren Victory: The Retreat into Chattanooga, the Confederate Pursuit, and the Aftermath of Battle, September 21 to October 20, 1863.
