ECW Symposium Traffic Alert

For all of you traveling to this weeks symposium:

The Fourth Annual Emerging Civil War Symposium is being held in Northern Virginia. Traffic in this area of the I-95 corridor can be EXTREMELY heavy on Friday afternoons/evenings, especially if you are traveling in from the north. Please note this as you plan your trip.

There are numerous routes to get to Stevenson Ridge, although most participants will use the I-95 corridor.

If approaching Fredericksburg from I-95 South-Exit 126A is the most direct exit, but if there is heavy traffic, consider using Exit 118.

If approaching Fredericksburg from the I-95 North-Exit 126A is the most direct exit, but if there is heavy traffic, consider using Exit 130A or 133A.

The address of Stevenson Ridge is:
6901 Meeting Street
Spotsylvania, VA 22553

Please visit our symposium page, and drop down menus on our header bar, for more information.

From the Hampton Inn:
Make a right on US Route 1 (Jeff Davis Highway). Make a left onto Hood Drive. at the intersection with Route 208 (Courthouse Road) make a left. After 4.7 miles on 208, Stevenson Ridge will be on your right.

  1. Just a suggestion: An alternate route, especially from north and west, is down the west side of Quantico Marine Base to 15 to Brandy Station, then take 669 over to 3 and in the back way. Might be longer around from NE, but avoids the whole 95 corridor and 17. I intend to come that way.

  2. A question I’m coming down I-95 through NJ and considering diverting onto the Delaware/Maryland Eastern Shore on 301 to Annapolis, and continuing on 301 south, over the Potomac and over to Fredericksburg. Half an hour longer than the highway route in good traffic that way. I am not familiar with 301 as it travels south from Annapolis and crosses the Potomac into VA… Does anyone familiar with that route think it’s a viable alternative to Friday gridlock on I-95? Or does it have congestion of its own?
