Great Defense Stands of the Civil War: An Introduction

4:45-5:45 PM:

-Dr. Kelly Mezurek—“Rebel Soldiers and Darkies on Guard over Them!”: Race, Retaliation, and Black Soldiers as Civil War Sentinels

6-7 PM:

-Keynote speaker Brian Matthew Jordan—The Battle of South Mountain

7:15-9 PM:

-Author/Speaker Roundtable Discussion Emceed by Chris Mackowski
-Roundtable discussion topics will include our theme, “Great Defenses of the Civil War,” the legacy of these defenses, Lee, Grant, Jackson, Thomas other personalities, and more.

Sunday August 6:

8:30 AM – 12:30 PM:

-Car caravan tour of the Brandy Station Battlefield with Eric J. Wittenberg and Daniel T. Davis. Tour meets and departs from the Confederate Horse Artillery Park. Tour stops will include the Buford’s Knoll, Fleetwood Hill, Kelly’s Ford, and more.


Proceeds from the event support battlefield preservation.
