Edward and Nancy Murray home on Stateline Road in Lake County, Illinois

When Edward Murray and Nancy Dixon married in February 1853, they lived with Edward’s parents on the family’s homestead along Stateline Road in Lake County, Illinois. After the birth of their second child in spring 1855, Edward and Nancy built a house and barn, and “went to keeping house.”

Edward and Nancy lived in this house until they retired from farming and moved to Waukegan, Illinois in 1887. The farm continued to be operated by the family for many years. The house still stands on the north side of Stateline Road west of Russell, Illinois.
