Saving History Saturday: Park Day
Each year, for the last 29 years, thousands of people, in communities around the country have come together to help preserve, protect, and improve historic sites and battlefields by giving a couple of hours of their time.
Some of the work that volunteers contribute to these sites include everything from clearing brush, cutting trails, building and fixing fences, and contributing to interpretation, just to name a few. These are just some of the ways that you can help take care of our shared history, the places that tell our shared history and hold so much meaning to us as individuals, and a nation.
This year, Park Day, a nationwide effort that includes over 100 individual sites, in 26 states, takes place on Saturday April 26th. The American Battlefield Trust (ABT) provides support for the event, as well as compiling a comprehensive list of sites, and contact information for each.
While you can find a volunteer opportunity near you through ABT’s website, you will need to contact the sponsoring site or organization directly to find out how you can help.
