I love this series because I’ve discovered so many great articles among people’s favorites. ‘Stragglers and Insanity’ is particularly good. There was a hotel used as a hospital in Alexandria next to Carlyle House, I’m sure Madeline is familiar with it, where a couple of wounded Union soldiers jumped to their deaths (or at least that’s the story). I’m sure they were suffering from some kind of severe PTSD.
