10,000 Posts: Phill Greenwalt Dips into the ECW Archives

My favorite posts written by my ECW colleagues:

Burning Bridges to Baltimore by Dwight Hughes, posted on August 20, 2020. Still feels weird to think of him as “the late” Dwight Hughes.

The American Bastille by Brian Kowell, posted on October 7, 2025. I love the connection with France, “Bastille,” and the imagery that creates.

Attack of the Mules: The Battle of Valverde’s Most Unexpected Sacrifice by Pat Kelly-Fischer, posted on February 20, 2026

Pieces that I’ve written:

What Did the War Cost? posted on May 22, 2015. As I was reviewing the posts for ECW, I kept coming back to this one I wrote in 2015. Still one of the memorable ones.

Flag for a Fallen Colonel, posted on June 23, 2021. Drew Gruber and I have discussed how some of the terrain described in a lot of accounts did not exist around Williamsburg, which shows the confusion or just the flattery. But, still such a poignant story of sacrifice and loss.
