10,000 Posts: Tim Talbott Dips into the ECW Archives
Here are my favorites from others:
Lieutenant Justin E. Dimick: “Accomplished Artillery Officer, Truest Soldier” by Sarah Kay Bierle, posted on May 4, 2019. Chancellorsville artillery stories are difficult to beat, and this is one of the best. Capt. Thomas W. Osborn’s letters are fantastic reading.
The Newby Family Fights for Freedom by Jon-Erik Gilot, posted on February 21, 2019. This article touches on so many of my Civil War interests, plus it offers inspiring stories of sacrifice.
The Superhuman Henry Recor at the Petersburg Breakthrough by Edward S. Alexander, posted on August 14, 2018. Common soldiers are sometimes difficult to research, but they rarely disappoint when done well like this one.
Favorites of my own:
“I Felt Sick at Heart and Discouraged”: A USCT Captain’s Combat Trauma at New Market Heights, posted on July 30, 2025. A sad day’s tale told straight from the heart.
Fate’s Cruel Timing: Sgt. Maj. George F. Polley, 10th Massachusetts Infantry, posted on May 31, 2024. A tragic story of a life unintentionally stolen away.
