Arie De Young

Arie De Young is an undergraduate history student at Anderson University specializing in the American Civil War, with a particular focus on Indiana’s involvement, the politics of the era, the Army of the Cumberland, and George H. Thomas. He plans to pursue a doctorate and enter academia.

Although Arie has been a Hoosier throughout most of his life, he enjoys visiting historic sites across America, especially the battlefields of the Civil War. He has delivered presentations at the Northwest Indiana Civil War Roundtable and the Indiana Political Science Association. His current research project focuses on how the 1864 Republican primary in Indiana’s 5th congressional district was representative of factional divisions as the war closed.
