Fashion in the Historic Triangle

RevWarWednesdays-headerWhen one heads to the Historic Triangle of Jamestown-Williamsburg-Yorktown, Virginia becoming immersed in early American History is almost a given.

At the same time, when one is looking for fashion in the area, the Premium Outlets in Williamsburg would usually be the direction one would head.

However, thanks to Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center, fashion and American history come together. But, the clothing styles does not end with just Colonial American history, as fashion from British military uniforms to Native American and West African cultures will also be on display.

When the calendar turned to June, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia kicked off “Fashion in Colonial Virginia.” Different events cap off this month.

“A Stitch in Time” which will bring to life 17th century clothing styles “come to life” in front of your very eyes. Two fashion shows are on tap for the weekend as well; 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Or at noon and 3 p.m. a  behind the scenes tour of the clothing shop will be offered.

All these tours are available both Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28.

The events this weekend coincide with a month-long exhibit at Jamestown Settlement; British military uniforms as part of a “Defending the Crown” exhibit.

According to Christopher Daley, from the Historical Clothing Services, the exhibit “traces the story of the British military, through its uniforms from Jamestown in 1607 to the current British army in 2015”

The uniforms are a mixture of  reproduction and original uniform items.

Not only does fashion and history come together, but, with living historians depicting the styles of different cultures, the eras of yesterday will come alive before your eyes.

All in one place.

History, fashion, and immersion into past cultures, a trifecta in the Historic Triangle of Virginia.
