There are a surprising number of songs written over the past 50 years or so that have as their subject the Civil War. A link to some of them is below. That said, I’ve always loved the song “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” by The Band. I figure if a song is about the Civil War, then it meets my criteria of “Civil War era”! Heck, we’re still talking about it.
Many are brilliant.
The Yellow Rose of Texas
The Battle Cry of Freedom
Dixie
Battle Hymn of the Republic
etc,
But my fave song of all time is the Wild Colonial Boy.
Rainy Days and Mud Marches Always Get Me Down, by Ambrose and the Sideburns
I’m a good old rebel.
Goober Peas.
