Symposium Spotlight: Neil P. Chatelain

Welcome back to a new installment of our 2023 Emerging Civil War Symposium Spotlight as we continue announcing the speaker list! This week we feature ECW member, Neil P. Chatelain.

Neil P. Chatelain specializes in researching naval operations of the U.S. Civil War. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Neil spent nine years as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer, both on active duty and in the reserves. Neil is a graduate of the University of New Orleans, the University of Houston, and the University of Louisiana–Monroe. He lives in the greater Houston area, teaching at both Lone Star College–North Harris and Carl Wunsche Sr. High School. He is the author of Defending the Arteries of Rebellion: Confederate Naval
Operations in the Mississippi River Valley, 1861-1865 and Fought Like Devils: The Confederate Gunboat McRae.
