Question of the Week: What ECW series book would you like to see?

What topic do you want to see covered by a new Emerging Civil War Series book? What are we missing that you think is worth its own ECW series book?

  1. Advancements developed during the Civil War, or those which had their roots then which carried on into the future, such as submarines and ironclads, balloon observation, trench and explosive warfare, Spencer and Gatling guns, etc.

    1. Also military tactics such as the merger of mobility and firepower as in Wilder’s Lightning Brigade, mounted infantry with Spencer rifles

  2. You may be familiar with the “Small Battle series” which Westholme Publishing is doing for Revolutionary War battles. A series like this may work for smaller Civil War events.

  3. The many aspects surrounding the intersection of the Civil War & the Law. For example, the rules governing armies & civilians (“hard war”), treatment of partisans, POW treatment & exchange issues (Hill-Dix Cartel & its breakdown), domestic political issues (freedom of the press, political prisoners, privateers, theories underlying freedom for enslaved & how Congress handled confiscation), the whole issue of secession, and the great variety of Reconstruction Era issues, how the Civil War still affects the nation. There are many subjects to discuss.

  4. A series on the governors during the war, both north and south, would be interesting. This series could examine the background of each governor, how that governor interacted with his national government, and how that interaction helped or hindered the war effort.
