November 2025 Header Image: Battle of Chattanooga – Gen. Thomas’ Charge Near Orchard Knob, Nov. 24′ 1863 by Kurz & Allison

This month’s header image depicts a scene from the Battle of Chattanooga, which will have its 162nd anniversary this month. This lithographic print, created by Kurz & Allison in 1888, shows the events of November 23 when Union troops seized the high ground at a spot called Orchard Knob. After Union troops entrenched themselves at Orchard Knob, Grant used it as his headquarters for the next two days of fighting.
