2025 Year In Review: Book Reviews

If there’s one thing that Civil War enthusiasts, buffs, students and historians all have in common, it’s that we love books – probably out of all proportion to smart budgeting, or how many we can realistically store in our homes.

And with a constant flood of new books coming out, Emerging Civil War tries to help you navigate which ones are worth your time through our book reviews – sometimes as many as four reviews in a week.

Led by our book review editor Tim Talbott, followed by Kevin Donovan partway through the year, ECW contributors and guest reviewers took a look at more than 130 books in 2025.
