  1. Battle Hymn of the Republic, Dixie, Garry Owen (perhaps not so much a Civil War song but close enough for me)

  2. 32 years ago we named our newborn daughter “Lorena” after the song the soldiers sang during the Civil War.

  3. “Lorena”, ever since I first heard it on the Civil War album from the Life History of the United States series, which were in my high school library’s spoken word LPs. This was a more mournful rendition than that typically heard by artists like John Hartford (as heard on Burns’ Civil War series, and soundtrack albums. I’ve obtained the vinyl album and will finally have it digitized – it is out of print, and as far as I know has never been reissued or streamed.

Second place, would be Kathy Mattea’s cover of “The Vacant Chair”.

  4. Most interesting to listen to some of the selections I’d never heard before.
Perhaps the gathering at the Symposium should record the songs and ECW issue a DVD

    1. Just thought, The first track should be the Tout Ensemble of the symposium sitting round a campfire singing Goober Peas. fitting i should think especially if they are accompanied by a BBQ.

  5. Just thought. First track should be the Tout Ensemble singing Goober Peas seated round a campfire at a BBQ in the grounds.
