10,000 Posts: Jon-Erik Gilot Dips into the ECW Archives

My favorites from others…

The Rebirth of the Army of the Potomac by Kris White, posted on June 10, 2016. Kris White was the reason I got involved with ECW. When he came to my local library for a lecture, it felt like a rockstar coming to town. This series has remained one of my all-time favorites on ECW.

A Chronology of the Confederacy’s 1862 Counterstrokes by Kevin Pawlak, posted on August 30, 2021. A terrific chronology of the 1862 Confederate counter-offensives that I’ve referenced many times since publication.

The Future of Civil War History: Rob Orrison by Rob Orrison, posted on June 14, 2016 as part of our “The Future of Civil War History” Series. A thought-provoking post that has stuck with me since reading it, before I came to know and admire Rob Orrison.

My own favorites…

An Early War Skirmish on Virginia’s Eastern Shore: The Engagement at Wishart Point, posted on February 7, 2022. My family loves Chincoteague, and this was my attempt to correct the history of an early war skirmish on the eastern shore that, for a half-century, has been plagued by bad history contrived by a dishonest treasure hunter (which is a story in itself). There was no battle at Cockle Creek, but there was a skirmish at Wishart Point!

McIlvaine’s Hotel: A Landmark on the Road to Gettysburg, posted on April 28, 2022. I love studying the peripheries of the Gettysburg Campaign, and this spot near Breezewood, Pennsylvania —some 65 miles west of Gettysburg—represents the western reaches of the Confederate invasion.
