ECW News: Culpeper Battlefields State Park Hires A Public Safety Law Enforcement Ranger
RAPIDAN, Va. – Culpeper Battlefields State Park welcomes Dalton Brown as the Park’s first Public Safety and Law Enforcement Ranger. Ranger Brown is excited to be returning to the area and brings with him a passion for public service and the outdoors.
Brown, who is 30 was raised in nearby Nokesville attended Brentsville High School where he played rugby. After working as a mechanic for several years he decided to make a big life change in 2021 and moved to Whitetop, Virginia for a new job as a maintenance Ranger at Grayson Highlands State Park. It was here he discovered his love for the outdoors and public service. As his passion for the outdoors grew, he moved back to the region for a job as a Forest Technician and Wildland Firefighter with the Virginia Department of Forestry. However, the allure of State Parks saw him most recently serving as the Public Safety and Law Enforcement Ranger at Shenandoah River State Park just before coming to Culpeper.

With his family connections to Culpeper, knowledge of the region from his time at Forestry and interest in history the position at Culpeper was a natural fit. “I look forward to meeting members of the community and helping to provide a safe and welcoming park for everyone to enjoy,” said Brown. As Culpeper Battlefields State Park continues to develop locals will not only have a chance to meet Brown in his patrol truck but also at local events, festivals, and programs.
“Protecting the invaluable natural and cultural resources we’ve been entrusted with are a key part of his job description,” said Drew Gruber, Park Manager of Culpeper Battlefields State Park. Gruber continued, “While he is serious about his work, Dalton brings a warm smile, a gift of gab and a love of Culpeper which is endearing.”
Culpeper Battlefields State Park is still being developed, and land acquisitions are planned to take place between 2024 and 2027. Visit the park’s website for more information.
