No NPS? No Problem!: Allatoona Pass
Day Seven in a series coinciding with the federal government shutdown

The time period between the fall of Atlanta and Hood’s invasion of Tennessee is one of the missing episodes of the history of the war in the Western Theater. It saw some small but very dramatic but engagements as the Army of Tennessee retraced its path to Atlanta in reverse. One of these engagements occurred at Allatoona Pass, where a nasty little engagement was fought on October 5, 1864.
Today, a large portion of the site is protected by the State of Georgia, with a walking trail and interpretive markers to tell the story. Information can be found at the following:
