“The symposium was another home run, and another energetic exchange of ideas about the Civil War and its legacy. My major takeaway is that the Civil War’s legacy is vast, layered, and in some ways still evolving. Our discussions sharpened the fact that the Civil War was the defining event in U.S. history.”
