Year in Review-Header

Beyond the content we’ve offered here on the blog, Emerging Civil War had a great year in print.

The Emerging Civil War Series, published by Savas Beatie, LLC, has grown to include a total of sixteen titles—nearly half of which came out in 2015. This year’s entries in the series:

Beyond the Emerging Civil War Series, the second volume of Dave Powell’s definitive study of the Chickamauga Campaign came out in September: Glory or the Grave: The Breakthrough, the Union Collapse, and the Defense of Horseshoe Ridge, September 20, 1863.

Eric Wittenberg’s “The Devil’s to Pay”: John Buford at Gettysburg was selected as the book of the year by the Gettysburg Civil War Roundtable.

The Spring 2015 issue of Hallowed Ground featured an article by Bert Dunkerly, “To the Bitter End: The Final Months of the War.”

The October 2015 issue of Civil War Times featured an article by Chris Mackowski and Kristopher D. White: “Another Butchery: The Third and Final Attack at Spotsylvania’s Bloody Angle.”

The Winter 2015 issue of Hallowed Ground featured three articles by ECW historians:

The December 2015 issue of Civil War Times featured a story by Dan Davis and Phill Greenwalt: “A Near Disaster: The Wilson Kautz Raid.”

The same issue featured a review of Chris Mackowski’s book Grant’s Last Battle.

Chris Mackowski’s feature on Stonewall Jackson’s arm, which first appeared in the April 2013 issue of Civil War Times, became a featured story at Historynet.com in July and remained up until year’s end.

Finally, for those looking for some fiction, Sarah Kay Bierle’s historical novel Blue, Gray & Crimson: A Story of Civilian Courage at Gettysburg was released in July 2015.
