Preparing for Turning Points
Earlier this fall, we let you know about the upcoming release of our first book in the new “Engaging the Civil War” Series that ECW is publishing with Southern Illinois University Press: Turning Points of the American Civil War. We’re so excited about the book that we’re building our Fifth Annual Emerging Civil War Symposium at Stevenson Ridge around the theme.
In conjunction with the book’s release, we’re going to spend some time over the next couple of weeks considering this idea of “turning points of the war.” Keep an eye out for our turning points logo–which happens to come straight from the cover of the book–for posts that consider our theme from a variety of different angles. We want to bring a lot of voices into the discussion and then set them in conversation with our nifty new book.
And then, if that’s not all, we all plan to get together Aug. 3-5, 2018, and really talk it up. You should join us! Early bird tickets are only $130 through Dec. 31.
Edited by ECW co-founders Chris Mackowski and Kristopher D. White, Turning Points of the American Civil War features a foreword by historian Tom Desjardin and essays by Dan Davis, Steve Davis, Ryan Longfellow, Greg Mertz, James Morgan III, Rob Orrison, Kevin Pawlak, and Rea Andrew Redd, with additional material by Chris and Kris. The book will be available in softcover and e-book.
But that’s not all! One of the things that will make our “Engaging the Civil War” Series so unique is that each book will link back to the Emerging Civil War website for special content, including additional photos, links to ECW stories, and web-exclusive material. Once more, we’re innovating the way the public can engage with the Civil War for an enhanced reader-focused experience.
More details are coming soon. In the meantime, keep an eye out for our turning points logo and join us in the conversation!
