Saving History Saturday: $2.88 Million Through American Battlefield Protection Program To Save Hallowed Ground

On August 27, 2020, the National Park Service published a news release stating that “the Trump Administration today announced $2,887,423 in grants from the National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program to protect 221 acres of Civil War battlefields and 13 acres of Revolutionary War battlefields.” The American Battlefield Protection Program administers the Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant, allowing for matching funds to save eligible sites of hallowed ground.

The newly announced funding is aimed to save battlefield land at Deep Bottom Battlefield, Reams Station Battlefield, Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield and Ware Bottom Church Battlefield in Virginia, and at Perryville Battlefield in Kentucky and Metuchen Meeting House Battlefield in New Jersey. In total over 200 acres of historic battlefield land will be preserved through this current grant announcement!
