Saving History Saturday: 145 Acres To Save At Cross Keys

This month Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation announced a new opportunity to save 145 at Cross Keys and create a battlefield park. In their recent new release and appeal, SVBF explains how 95 new acres are available for new preservation and can be combined with another 50 acres to be transferred to the foundation’s stewardship for future historical interpretation. $47,000 will complete the preservation project.

The Battle of Cross Keys—fought on June 8, 1862—as part of Jackson’s Valley Campaign resulted in a Confederate victory. The tracts that SVBF is currently working to preserrve is where Trimble’s Confederates clashed with the 8th New York in a pivitol action in the fight.
