Saving History Saturday: Virginia Battlefield Preservation Fund Announces Grants

Recently, the Virginia Battlefield Preservation Fund (VBPF) announced their grants which will aid in the protection of more than 610 acres, including Civil War battlefields and combat sites with ties to U.S. Colored Troops. VBPF’s original press release detailed that American Battlefield Trust, Capital Region Land Conservancy, Great Battlefield and Waterways History Foundation, and Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation are the recipients of the grants which will be used to encourage private matching donations.

The targeted Civil War battlefields for continuing preservation through these grants are Cedar Creek, Deep Bottom, Fisher’s Hill, Port Republic, Williamsburg and New Market Heights. The Revolutionary War site of the Battle of Great Bridge will also receiving funding.

  1. As we see the ever increasing creep of Condos and high rises expanding into historic areas I am so happy we can save our history so generations can learn what happened there
