Introducing “My ECW Story” Series

Since our founding in 2011, the genesis of Emerging Civil War has been identifying and spotlighting the next generation of Civil War historians and the fresh ideas they bring to the historical conversation. To that end, we have always tried to encourage a diversity of perspectives in the scholarship presented on our blog. It has been gratifying to watch so many of our young and young-at-heart historians use ECW as a platform to promote themselves and their work to a wider audience.

In staring down our ten year (!) anniversary later this year, we have recommitted ourselves to bringing you new voices and perspectives for our next ten years. Our Recruitment Committee has been hard at work developing strategies for encouraging participation from individuals in the field of Public History, as well as from Civil War roundtables, and our general readership. Our editorial board is excited to work with new authors to help hone their research skills and develop their writing.

In this new series, each month we will introduce you to an ECW member. They will discuss how they came to join ECW, their duties within the organization, and how they have been able to leverage the ECW platform into new opportunities for speaking and scholarship. It is our hope that these stories serve to inspire a new generation of ECW historians.
