ECW Weekender: Chancellorsville and ChickChatt

This weekend marks the anniversary of the 1863 battle of Chancellorsville.

Folks who visited the battlefield last summer and over the winter discovered that the Chancellorsville Visitor Center (CVC) was closed—not because of COVID but because the plumbing was out. Fortunately, NPS staff members were still available on site to answer questions and orient visitors.

This year, CVC has re-opened on a limited basis. COVID restrictions do remain in place, though. Face masks are required in all federal buildings, including visitor centers and outside on National Park Service managed lands when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

For a complete look at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park’s current restrictions, including some closures due to COVID and due to construction, click here. The battlefield itself is accessible each day until dusk.

Editor’s Note: As we went to press, word arrived that Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will resume regular operating hours, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., at its visitor centers at Chickamauga Battlefield and Lookout Mountain.
