Saving History Saturday: 51 Acres at Perryville

Just in time for the battle anniversary this week, the American Battlefield Trust announced a preservation victory at Perryville Battlefield in Kentucky. The newly preserved 51 acres bring the total saved acreage there to 1,202!

In the news article, the Trust says: “Surrounded by land already owned by Perryville Battlefield State Park, this property is a connective puzzle piece that will allow visitors to furthermore engage with the consequential actions that unfolded upon it — especially once fully integrated into the park. In recognizing the tract’s ability to expand meaningful interpretation, the National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program stepped in to support this preservation effort, which, in turn, increased the value of each donor dollar.”

  1. Always love the good news from a battlefield in my old college’s backyard. But for the website to claim it as a Union tactical victory is a stretch.
