At the intersection of Brock Road and Catharpin Road, Todd’s Tavern deteriorating buildings marked a point between The Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The location witnessed military movements during the Civil War and actual fighting during the 1864 Overland Campaign. On May 7, Union and Confederate cavalry battled around Todd’s Tavern, as the Confederates tried to delay the Army of the Potomac in the race toward Spotsylvania Court House.
Now, the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust and the American Battlefield Trust have partnered to preserve nearly the entire Todd’s Tavern battlefield. The pristine 141 acre tract is up for preservation through the outreach of the owner who seeks to save this historic land which is important to understand the Overland Campaign. Central Virginia Battlefields Trust is currently fundraising $15,000 to help with the overall sum need to save this land forever.
