In March 2024 my Maine at War blog discussed a soldier-killing Confederate feline, the latest photos from the Little Round Top reconstruction, Manassas Gap Railroad preservation efforts, and the Maine officers who played musical chairs at Hilton Head.

March 13, 2024: Recent photos suggest the Little Round Top restoration is winding down. In mid-February, the National Park Service started posting photos showing recently construction activity at Little Round Top, closed for renovations since summer 2022. The photos suggest that the project is nearing its completion.

Preservationists are pursuing two conflicting ways to the save the historic Manassas Gap Railroad. One solution would let Civil War buffs hike the rails — and ride them, too.

March 27, 2024: 9th Maine Infantry plays musical chairs at Hilton Head
With the departure of the 9th Maine Infantry Regiment’s field staff, remaining officers jockeyed for promotion at Hilton Head, South Carolina. The game of musical chairs took a little while to play.
