Gettysburg’s Christmas Lights Glow in Chamberlain’s Hometown

At Christmastime, the lights of Gettysburg shine brightly in Brewer, Maine and perhaps they shine even more brightly in December 2024 than in past years.

Brewer being the hometown of a certain 20th Maine Infantry colonel, a developer bought high ground off North Main Street years ago, built streets and the requisite water-sewer infrastructure, and created the so-called “Gettysburg development.”

The streets are named Gettysburg Avenue, Little Round Top Drive, Appomattox Road (a cul de sac), and Bowdoin Drive (blink once and you miss the turn when driving past it). Most houses are large by central Maine standards, and about half the homeowners go all out with decorating their humble abodes at Christmas.

Enjoy the lights of Gettysburg, as experienced in Brewer!

  1. Gettysburg itself has a great Christmas Festival that they hold during the first weekend of December of each year. Check it out some time.
