ECW Breaking News: Gettysburg History

The Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg, PA, has launched today a new name and initiative called Gettysburg History.

“Our current name doesn’t fully reflect the breadth of what we do — or where we’re headed,” says Executive Director Andrew Dalton. “This new identity will bring all of our work under one umbrella — our museums, programs, the Gettysburg Film Festival, and upcoming initiatives like the creation of a downtown Black History Museum. It’s a platform that will allow us to preserve our local roots while inviting a broader audience to discover and support our work and the work of our partners.”

For more information, Gettysburg History created a short video to explain their vision:

Dalton emphasizes that the organization’s mission isn’t changing. “In fact,” he says, “this is the next step in fulfilling it. Everything we’ve built — and everything still to come — is rooted in the same commitment to preservation, education, and community.”

  1. Sounds exciting! I don’t understand, though, why “Black History” is continually segregated from other history. It seems like just another way to stoke racial divisions, especially post-2020.
