Symposium Spotlight: Teasing Next Year’s Line-Up

For next year’s Emerging Civil War Symposium at Stevenson Ridge, we have promised you “Partnerships and Rivalries,” and wow, have we had a lot of topics to choose from. As we’ve shifted through our proposals, we’ve had to balance North versus South, Eastern Theater vs. Western Theater vs. Trans-Mississippi Theater, “emerging” voices with old favorites, and much, much more. (Plus there are those pesky budgetary considerations to take into account!)

With that balancing act underway, we’re honing in on a final line-up.

I know many folks have been eagerly awaiting details before they pull the trigger on their ticket purchase. Our early bird price of $275 remains in effect through December 31. After that, our regular ticket price will $325. You can find out more, and order tickets, by visiting our Symposium page.

To tease you a little bit, let me share a few of the topics coming your way:

  • “Not with a Pen but a Sword”: George H. Thomas and John M. Schofield
  • “With Friends Like These…”: Ambrose Burnside and Joseph Hooker, Late 1862
  • “Duel in the Desert”: Canby and Sibley’s Fight for the West
  • “Partners in Escape”: POW Escape Attempts and Plots, Successful and Stymied
  • “The Mississippi River vs. Everyone”: How Grant, Foote, Pope, Farragut, Porter, Butler, Lovell, Johnston, Beauregard, and Hollins had to fight the “Father of Waters” before fighting each other

Who’s giving those talks, you ask? That’s part of the tease. 😉

Seriously, though, we’ll share the full line-up of speaker and topics soon. We’ll have a total of eleven talks, headlined by our co-keynotes Harold Holzer and Craig Symonds.

For our Sunday tour, I’m still working out details, but we’ll be honing in on Stonewall Jackson and his “arresting personality.” More on that soon!
