ECW News: Data Center Developments

The construction of data centers near historically sensitive ground has been an ongoing source of concern for battlefield preservationists in Virginia. Over the past couple of weeks, there has been movement on the issue on a couple fronts.

On March 30, the Virginia Court of Appeals ruled against a rezoning effort in Prince William County that would have allowed the construction of 37 data centers and impacted Manassas National Battlefield.

In Orange County, court hearings continued about a proposed “Wilderness Crossing” development that currently call for one or more data centers. Local residents have also expresses concerns about power-line right-of-ways that would infringe on battlefield land.

And tax breaks for data centers are at the heart of a state budget impasse in Virginia.

David Duncan, president of the American Battlefield Trust, joins ECW News to discuss the recent flurry of action.
