I am reading “Union Jacks” by Michael J Bennett. My paternal great grandfather, Thomas Bowler, was a Landsman on 4 ships during the war. I know nothing of him except what I have from Pension records and a lengthy obituary(he was crushed in a Massachusetts quarry)
I want to thank you for your article some weeks ago, on Landsmen, that introduced me to this informative, well written and immensely enjoyable book. I have a difficult time putting it down
I’m reading two books at this time. One is, of course, Civil War related and the second concerns our first President and Revolutionary War hero George Washington. The first is James Robertson’s fantastic biography on Thomas Jackson called “Stonewall Jackson”. The second book is “All Cloudless Glory” a two volume biography of George Washington written by Harrison Clark.
