Civil War U: An Introduction

Not only does fall mean “back to school,” but it’s also the season where high school students hit the road for college visits. In that spirit, Emerging Civil War is pleased to kick off a Friday-morning series that will last through October that will give you a glimpse of the ol’ college life.

A small handful of colleges and universities offer programs specifically designed for Civil War studies. We’ll highlight those programs over the next few weeks.

We hope the series will serve as a resource for students interested in being part of the next generation of “emerging voices “in the field. We also hope it will educate our general readership about the high-quality programs out there where the front edge of Civil War studies is happening. You may have heard of some of these programs because of their public-facing conferences and symposia, but our series will let you look under the hood a little bit.

As part of the series, we’ll also speak to a student from each program so that we can all get a student’s-eye perspective of what makes each program tick. Our hope is that these short interviews will be especially helpful for prospective students who are shopping around.
