Saving History Saturday: New Preservation Opportunity on Jackson’s Flank Attack at Chancellorsville

At their 30th Anniversary Annual Meeting the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust (CVBT) announced its latest preservation effort, 2-acres on the south side of Virginia Route 3 on Stonewall Jackson’s Flank Attack, almost exactly across the road from one of their earliest preservation victories.

The parcel, which CVBT is calling Jackson’s Flank Attack – First Wave is an important connector parcel, which will help join land that CVBT has saved to the east, with land that the American Battlefield Trust has saved to the west. This is also land where Jackson’s Flank Attack first hit the Union XI Corps, and specifically the area where the 55th Ohio was positioned.

This is the latest acquisition in CVBT’s 30-year effort to stitch together the route of Jackson’s Flank Attack along the south side of VA Route 3. Together with their preservation partners 110-acres of the Flank Attack have been preserved.

CVBT is currently raising $125,000 for this preservation opportunity. To support this preservation effort and learn more about what CVBT is doing at Chancellorsville, and the rest of the Fredericksburg area battlefields, click here.
