ECW Week in Review Dec. 11-17

This past week was a busy one for ECW with the observance of the 155th Anniversary of the Battle of Fredericksburg. In partnership with the Civil War Trust, the National Civil War Museum, and the National Park Service we participated in the Trust’s Facebook Live events. We also had a number of pieces related to the campaign and battle. You may click on the links below to read each post.

On December 12 and December 13, Chris Mackowski and Dan Davis joined the Civil War Trust, National Park Service, members of the National Museum of the Civil War and other historians for the Trust’s Facebook live events at various sites on the Fredericksburg battlefield. You may view all the videos on the Trust’s Facebook page. Chris also shared photos from the event (individual links to each of the Facebook videos are also available in the post.)

Steward Henderson kicked off our posts on Fredericksburg with a series on one of the town’s historical churches, St. George’s Episcopal.

Dan Davis continued his series on Wade Hampton’s activities during the campaign. You may catch up on the series here.

Chris Kolakowski also offered his thoughts and future comparisons on the attacks on Marye’s Heights.

We also announced the release of the expanded edition of Simply Murder, the ECW Series book published by Savas Beatie, LLC on the Battle of Fredericksburg.

Award winning author Dave Powell provided information on his 2018 Chickamauga Seminar.

Phill Greenwalt discussed a Turning Point of the war and a recent visit to the grave of a Confederate general.

Steve Davis posed a question to our readers on Civil War fiction. Speaking of books, Ryan Quint reviewed Shooting Lincoln: Matthew Brady, Alexander Gardner, and the Race to Photograph the Story of the Century. Sarah Kay Bierle offered a list of books to get the Civil War enthusiast for Christmas.

We also shared a message from the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust.

We also welcomed back guest authors Sean Michael Chick and Andrew Miller.
