Chris Mackowski: “One of the things I like about Caity’s photography is that she sees battlefields as places of beauty, not as former scenes of horror. There’s a story in the landscape, yes, but it’s first and foremost the story of now, the story of being in the moment. That might seem, at first blush, like an odd perspective for an historian—to be looking at the now—but that’s how visitors experience historic sites. They’re here, at this place, now. So how do they connect? Caity’s always deeply concerned with helping people make that connection, and I think her approach is an invaluable tool for facilitating that.”
