“Never forget”–The lesson of Antietam on 9/11
As seems to be my custom on 9/11, my thoughts go back to a different day in a past September: September 17, 1862. As I explained last year, the events of Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 17, 1862, have become inextricably linked in my mind. In recognition of both events—and as a continuing cautionary tale against forgetting either of them—I offer a repost of a reflection I put up during ECW’s first year, Remembering 9/11 and the Lesson of Antietam.
Very powerful, and very sobering. Maybe a small antidote is to do what you and the other bloggers here do so well –consistently bring the events of the past into the consciousness of us in the present “lest we forget.” Thanks very much for this.
