I just received my copy in the mail today! This was on my top three book list of 2021 and I couldn’t wait to get it. It was like I just received a late Christmas gift. Outstanding job Bert & Doug! You didn’t disappoint and I appreciate all of the hard work put into it. There’s still a lot of Civil War history in the Richmond area but you just have to know where to look. One usually has to be a battlefield detective to find everything, but you gave away all of Richmond’s secrets. This is book is long overdue. I used to refer to a 1980’s guidebook called “General Lee’s City” by Richard Lee where the city was broken down into quadrants. I really enjoy the city’s history being broken up by subject matter per chapter. Hat’s off to both of you!
I got my book a couple of weeks ago and it made my day! I’m so excited to dive into this one. Richmond is just so massive and drenched in history, it’s hard to know where to start. I’ll be taking it with me this August for my trip to VA. Thank you both for writing this much-needed guide!
