Symposium Spotlight: Matt Atkinson
In this latest installment of our 2021 Emerging Civil War Symposium Spotlight we feature longtime friend of ECW, Matt Atkinson. You won’t want miss this crowd favorite presenter this year, speaking on Confederate General Earl Van Dorn!
Matt is a native of Houston, Mississippi. He received a B.B.A in General Business and a B.A. in History from Univ. of Mississippi and is a MA in History from Louisiana-Monroe. Matt has worked at Petersburg National Battlefield, Natchez National Historical Park, Manassas National Battlefield, and Vicksburg National Military Park. He is currently employed as a ranger/historian at Gettysburg National Military Park.

I’ve seen Matt on several of Gettyburg’s YouTube videos. Even though I know he’ll be talking about Earl Van Dorn, I hope he’ll indulge some of us by answering a few questions about Gettysburg. In the bar, of course, at the end of the evening. I’ll buy his drinks.
