No one will ever say about Meg Groeling what Shakespeare had Mark Anthony say in Julius Caesar: “The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones.” Her remembrance will read more like the phrase attributed variously to ethnic groups as disparate as Norwegians or members of the Haudenosaunee confederacy (that’s the Iroquois for those not fortunate enough to study their history in the Great Northeast): “you are not really dead until you are forgotten”. So nice to learn that an unconventional path to being an historian can lead to such universal approbation.
