May was “Get Caught Reading” Month here at Emerging Civil War, and we caught some of our contributors with their noses in all sorts of books. Here is a quick recap of what titles our contributors were caught indulging in!

Chris Mackowski was reading the first volume in Shelby Foote’s Civil War trilogy (in a convenient set that breaks those big books into smaller segments that are a little easier to handle!). * * *
Doug Crenshaw was caught reading The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson. * * *
Evan Portman caught up on some 20th Maine reading with Stand Firm Ye Boys from Maine by Thomas A. Desjardin. * * *
Tonya McQuade was very busy reading Jesse James and the Civil War in Missouri by Robert L. Dyer, John Brown’s Women: A Novel by Susan Higginbotham, and an Emerging Civil War series book, John Brown’s Raid: Harpers Ferry and the Coming of the Civil War, October 16-18, 1859 by Jon-Erik Gilot & Kevin Pawlak. * * *

General Ulysses S. Grant (Curt Fields) displayed his excellent taste in books when he read Emerging Civil War’s “Hell Itself: The Battle of the Wilderness” by Chris Mackowski. * * *
Frank Jastrzembski made “Generals in Blue: Lives of the Union Commanders” by Ezra J. Warner his choice for the month. * * *
Neil Chatelain caught up on some Civil War Naval history with The Confederate Privateers by William Robinson. * * *
Kevin Pawlak read some information on Bull Run in “The Early Morning of War: Bull Run, 1861” by Edward G. Longacre. * * *
Richard Heisler read The Heart of Hell: The Soldiers’ Struggle for Spotsylvania’s Bloody Angle by Jeffry D. Wert this month. * * *
Sean Michael Chick read The Inner Civil War: Northern Intellectuals and the Crisis of the Union by George M. Fredrickson.
