  1. My favourite member of the 45th Illinois Volunteer Infantry: Assistant Surgeon Frank W. Reilly. Surgeon Reilly arrived at Pittsburg Landing April 1st and was wounded a few days later during the Battle of Shiloh while tending to wounded patients. Medivaced home to Chicago on the steamer City of Memphis, Surgeon Reilly submitted a very revealing article to the Chicago Daily Tribune, published Front Page of the 14 April 1862 edition.
