Beard-O-Rama: Worden vs. King

Today’s match-up wraps up the final bracket for our first round: Admiral John L. Worden (left) of the USS Monitor versus Federal Brig. Gen. John Haskell King (right).

Remember, this is a bracket to determine the best Civil War beard, not a popularity contest about who was better. Cast your facial hair vote by typing in the name of the officer with the best beard in the comments section below. Feel free to defend your choice. You can also cast a vote on the ECW Facebook page.

  1. Worden- Haskell’s looks like his hair grew too long and he’s trying to cover his upper lip

  2. John Worden, the old salt takes it! I particularly like the clef he has groomed in his beard.

  3. I vote for Worden. With the cleft beard I can picture him on the hurricane deck in the salt spray with his beards split and blowing on each side of his face.

  4. Adm. Worden wins. Nice amount of acreage, well groomed, and bonus points for the way it forks like the claw on a hammer.

  5. I vote Worden – I like the cleft at the bottom. King looks like he should have been in a 70s rock band (needs more cowbell).

  6. As with previous entries, not sure if General King’s qualifies as a beard or merely “Burnside” burns. Seems like, if you look closely, he has a chin strap holding his facial hair and “swoop do” or whatever he has on his head, all in place!!!

    Admiral Worden.

  7. Seeing as this is the Burnside bracket, I’ll give this one to King as the closest we’ve seen to Burnside’s luscious locks so far

  8. This is tough. King doesn’t have an actual beard but Wordens is dangerous because he might get it caught in the turret gears. I vote Worden on the technicality
