Beard-O-Rama: The Elite Eight—Williams vs. Wyndham

Several folks predicted that this would be the match-up to determine the whole tournament, and yet here it is in the Elite Eight: Federal Maj. Gen. Alpheus Williams (left) vs. Federal Col. Percy Wyndham (right).

Williams netted 87% of the vote in his first-round victory over John Dunlop Stevenson. Wyndham scored an even-more decisive victory in the first round, netting 97% of the vote over John Walker—the most lopsided victory anyone has secured thus far in the tournament.

Is the winner of this round favored to win the entire tourney?

Remember, this is a bracket to determine the best Civil War beard, not a popularity contest about who was better. Cast your facial hair vote by typing in the name of the officer with the best beard in the comments section below. Feel free to defend your choice. You can also cast a vote on the ECW Facebook page.

  1. My superior officer, er, wife, recommends Wyndham due to the sharpness and attention to detail of the beard grooming. His has an enthusiasm about it.

  2. I think Alpheus Williams wins by default. Wyndham is sporting a very fancy mustache/goatee combo, not a beard.

  3. This is a tough one, but I’m going with Wyndham. His luxuriant growth is just a bit more carefully groomed and the upward turn of the tips of his mustache seals the deal.

  4. While they are so similar, almost to the point of being identical, the length of Colonel Wyndham’s beard solidifies his win ……. By the hair of his chinny, chin, chin!

  5. William’s beard is like the name of his horse- “Plug Ugly.” Vote goes to Wyndham
