Beard-O-Rama: The Final Four—Green vs. Porter
If you’ve been following Beard Bracketology, then you know we’ve reached the Final Four of the Ambrose Burnside Memorial Beard-O-Rama Bracket!
In the Elite Eight, we saw the biggest upset of the tournament so far: Col. John Shackleford “Shack” Green (left) of the 6th Virginia Volunteer Cavalry toppled the man whose beard personified “beauty” itself, Jeb Stuart.
Green is now matched up against the bristle-chinned brown-water genius, Adm. David Dixon Porter (right), the lone naval rep still in the tournament.
Cast your facial hair vote by typing in the name of the officer with the best beard in the comments section below. Feel free to defend your choice. You can also cast a vote on the ECW Facebook page.
The winner of this match-up will square off against the winner of our other Final Four match-up, which will appear on Tuesday of this week. The championship will be on Friday!
Green
Porter
Green.
Porter. Shack’s beard seems too extreme to be feasible. He must have spent all his time in prison camp tending to his face fur.
Colonel Green
Porter; not to long, not to short; just right
Porter
Green by a whisker.
Every tournament needs a Cinderella story, and this year that’s Green.
Porter. I’m going functional over length.
Porter. I can’t forgive Green for beating JEB.
I’ll vote for the Navy guy, Adm. David Dixon Porter. His beard seems to better ‘fit’ his face!

Green with the length and the waves
Green
Porter. Go Navy!
Porter
Not even close — COL Green all the way … and that pains me as a sailor and Porter fan.
Porter! Furry, but fine.
Green!
I’m sailing with the brown water gob, David Dixon Porter.
Green
Green.
Porter
Have to stick with Porter on this one.
Porter
Adm. Porter. Just a solid, solid beard.
Porter
Porter!
