Beard-O-Rama: The Final Four—McLaws vs. Wyndham

Mustachioed March Madness continues! We’ve reached the second match-up of our Final Four to see who will advance to the Ambrose Burnside Memorial Beard-O-Rama Bracket Championship.

Confederate Maj. Gen. Lafayette McLaws (left), who has been compared to Harry Potter’s Hagrid, is looking to pull off more of his magic against the tournament’s early favorite to win it all, Federal Col. Percy Wyndham (right). To reach the Final Four, Wyndham had to defeat another early odds-on favorite, Alpheus Williams, whose beard looked like an older, more grizzled, gone-to-seed version of Wyndham’s.

Cast your facial hair vote by typing in the name of the officer with the best beard in the comments section below. Feel free to defend your choice. You can also cast a vote on the ECW Facebook page.

The winner of this match-up will square off against the winner of Monday’s match-up for the championship on Friday!

34 Responses to Beard-O-Rama: The Final Four—McLaws vs. Wyndham

  1. Wyndham of the UK, Wyndham of France, Wyndham of Austria, Sir Percy of Italy and General Wyndham of the USA!

  2. McLaws. He sports a luxuriant, well-tended, traditional beard in a mature face. Wyndham looks like a youngster going for weird and flamboyant to get attention from the ladies.

  3. McClaws! Especially because after the war he and his wife made their fortune selling Bear Claws at shopping malls in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania – the forerunner of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels.

  4. I’ve been Team Wyndham up to this point, but it’s starting to feel like that magnificent mustache is doing all the heavy lifting for him, so I’m going to go with McLaws.

  5. Wyndham all the way. Extra points for style, creativity, and the guts to wear something so outlandish!

  6. These two should’ve been in the final. McLaws has perhaps the best Civil War beard of all, but Wyndham’s overall wackiness takes the day!
